Solitary Eagle soaring above the Belizean Forest

Another Solitary Eagle, this time an adult soaring above the tropical forest of Belize. Here you can see how short the tail it is, barely projecting beyond the trailing edge of the wings, which is one of the most important features to ID solitary eagles in flight. Otra Águila Solitaria, esta vez un adulto planeando sobre el bosque tropical de Belize. Young Solitary Eagle in Belize and paper on post-fledging behavior

Here is the juvenile of the Solitary Eagle, quite different from the adult as you can see. Little is known about this raptor, and thanks to the discovery of this individual while I was working on the OBF project, Ryan Phillips and I published a paper on post-fledging behavior. Solitary Eagle, one of the rarest raptors in the World

I was looking for pictures for the new Whitehawk’s newsletter and I came across this adult Solitary Eagle taking off its perch. This is is one of the rarest raptors in the world, and little is known about them. I will post more pictures of this amazing species these days.
